Philosophy of Ministry:

I realized early in life that with the right instruction and encouragement, God can and will use anybody! Mrs. Bulah Dyess was the instructor and encourager that helped me as a child to stand before the congregation of Hebron Baptist Church in rural Jones County and sing my first solo in church. I will never forget that first frightful day when nothing would come out of my mouth. Monday was the start of another week of coaching from Mrs. Bulah and next Sunday I sang my first public solo. That’s what God has called me to do. Be that instructor and encourager to everyone that is present at every service of worship that I lead. Some day, another bashful, white-headed boy might find himself surrendering to a life of full time Christian service.
As worship leader of First Baptist Church, I feel that worship takes on several acts of obedience by everyone present. Worshiping involves a right understanding of who we are and who God is. Worship is an attempt to mirror the glory of God. We base worship on an intimate relationship with Him that is nurtured and cultivated Monday through Saturday, not just on Sunday. We must express our high regard for Him. There must be a sense of reverence. With these elements present we, without a doubt, find ourselves offering Him a genuine response.
It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. Ephesians 1:13-14 (the MESSAGE Bible)
First Baptist Church, West Point, emphasizes evangelism and missions. God has given us a mandate to take as many people to heaven with us as we possibly can. The membership of FBC makes a serious attempt to see that the entire city and county goes to heaven. You have my personal invitation to come and see!
